Fibonacci Pole

The Fibonacci Pole came out of a class designed to employ generative methods to physical pices. This piece uses the tragically overused Fibonacci Number System to generate both the form of the piece as well as the timing of the lights.

Following the first few digits of the string, the lights are spaced at 1 inch, 1 inch, 2 inches, 3 inches, 5 inches, 8 inches, and 13.

The lights cross fade at a rate according to the same set of numbers. With 255 steps of brightness, the higher lights fade at a step of 1 which creates it’s slow fade. Moving down, the light moves faster. Here the light fades at 21 steps. This has a faster fade. When viewed in sequence the light appears to bounce.
