Affirmation Machine

The affirmation machine is a modern technical marvel circa 1896. As the affirmation machine history is passed down, it was conceived and produced by a Fredrico Albertina in a small village outside what is now known as Paris.

Now Fredrico was something of an armchair psychologist and completely amateur scientist meaning he mostly tagged along with the scientist crowd, but never really understood what they were saying.

He did, however, have the notion that if he pinched an idea, from a scientist that to whom few people were paying attention, and passed it off to his friends, he might gain a little street cred and finally have something to talk about.

First he nicked an idea from a then obscure scientist working in stimulus and response. with the habit of ringing a bell whenever he wanted something made him something of an oddball and a person to be avoided. He rarely got what he wanted, but we can deem his experiment a success even though the response he elicited was repulsion.

Fredrico, literally stealing this idea from a really annoying person, knew his illicit behavior had to be disguised. His short term solution was to rather than drive people away with a bell and wild demands, that he should inspire a general feeling of well being and contentment.

Next he used his new "idea" to network the scientists and through subtle manipulation he got a few of the other scientists to do most of the work, the product of which is a wooden box designed to augment a persons self-esteem. There was a total of twelve scientists from around the globe who contributed not only their skills as scientists but also the voices of their wives who appear on the recordings.

They employed a young an dangerous technology for the time. Nome of them would ever guess the eventual power of the button over mankind and in their ignorance placed one in the machine. Along side it they used the much trusted, by then, dial. The latter choose a language and the former brought to life the machine.

With a press of the button, the hypnowheel in the lid rotates intending a relaxed state wherein one is more susceptible to suggestion while a voice, a sirens' song of affirmation arises from the wooden box.

He was successful, for but only a moment. On the day he revealed his work, the obscure scientist, we know of as Pavlov, who got his idea nicked bust into the room full of the local elite accusing Fredrico with idea nabbing and proceeded to smash three of the only four ever produced affirmation machines. Fists were exchanged, a nose bloodied, tears of a dream torn washed the room.

With the last affirmation machine under his arm, Fredrico disappeared into the night. He came back the next day for the rest of his things, but after that he was was never heard from again.
