soldering a power adapter

Setting up a power adapteris easy. Here are the parts you will need:

a 12 volt power supply
a power connector
some red wire
some black wire

This is what the power adapter will look like when you are finnished - following are the complete steps as really big pictures.

This is the power connector with it's cover on

Step One: Remove the cover. Notice that, on the plug, there are two tabs with holes in them. This is where we will be soldering. One tab is used for power and the other for ground. Also one tab is connected to the inside of the plug and the other is connected to the outside.

Step Two:
To determine wether the inside and outside are either power or ground, we can consult a diagram on the power supply. There is a negative sign and a positive sign in this diagram. The image in the center represents the adapters' plug. The negative(ground) is on the outside and the positive(power) is on the inside.

Step Three: Fist we are going to solder the power. Take a red wire, strip the end, and make a hook in the stripper portion.

Step Four:
Hook the red wire to the tab that is connected to the center of the adapter and with a pliars, crimp the wire.

Step Five: Solder the wire to the tab.

Step Six: Prepare the black wire in the same fashion and secure it to the tab connected to the outside of the adapter.

Step Seven: Solder the black wire.

The adapter should look like this. Make sure both solders are strong and replace the cover.
